Wines made from Mavrotragano display a complex and intense aromatic profile, with aromas of black fruits, spices, herbal and earthy notes, as well as notes of chocolate and cedar, particularly after maturation in oak barrels. On the palate, they are characterized by high acidity, medium-plus concentration-volume, intense and elegant tannins, and long aftertaste.
Mavrotragano is a very distinctive grape variety, as it can combine power and finesse, showing balance between acidity, alcohol, and tannins. It is often compared in terms of structure to international varieties (such as Syrah), while nevertheless retaining a strong Greek identity and a clear expression of terroir.
